Hello,
I'm thinking I can speed up this MS Combat flight sim WWll ver. considerably if I can get the image onto the H disk.
Not sure if it will work or how to do it. I have Nero and running 98 se.
any hints appreciated....Mike

There are a lot of Virtual CD products out there. Some free some not. Have not used one in awhile nor could I say if that would improve performance of the game you are playing.
Might help to give some specs on your pc so we know what might be causing the bottleneck. My guess is probably has not much to do with needing the cd in the drive to play the game.
Others more in the know on this I am sure will pass on some help as well.
thanks Paisan,
it's a Pllll 700 O/C to 933 mghz. 512 ram.
onboard video which is not very good, but the fan on my vid card quit a while ago and I can't see any way to get it off to replace it. Damn!!
It's not slow, actually works fine; it's just when loading modules it takes awhile for the old 52 X CDRom drive to wind up.
edit:
off to work now but will check this later.
Nero comes with a Virtual CD Emulator but its quite limited and i prefer to use DAEMON TOOLS. Daemon Tools is freeware and supports many different image formats.
Using Nero, burn a ISO image of the CD u wanna run, with Daemon Tools mount (open) the image file and it will apear as another CD Drive to use in the usual way like the real thing.
To make an ISO image in Nero u need to start Nero and select recorder as an image recorder [Recorder/Choose Recorder]... Then u just proceed like doing a CD to CD copy and it will ask you where to place the Image file, i always change the image type to ISO (a more common format) rather than nero's own format...
I assume u did a full install of the game (if applicable), usually in this case all files will be on the drive and it only checks you have the CD, nothing more... it sounds as if u may have done a small/minimum install maybe, but maybe not... any case if u'r gunna use a Virtual CD forever then a minimum install would be the most sensible so as to not waste space with duplicate files.
Of course there may be copyright protection preventing you from making a true image of the CD, so try it and see... Good Luck :)
thanks LotusAstra,

No, I did the full install. Like I said, the game runs fine, but everytime you load another module, the CD rom drive has to spin up to speed - but otherwise everything is running from the hard drive.
Anyway, I will try your method and thanks again for the trouble....Mike
