My friend has the Microsoft freeware security package protecting his system at the moment. He also got infected while using it.

I have used Avast free for years. And never had a problem (kiss of death)

So should I convince my friend to dump the Microsoft and go with Avast? Or was it likely just a bit of bad luck? I guess what I am asking, is what is the opinion of the Microsoft free security software?

Or am I missing the boat altogether, is there something better out there these days than Avast? Maybe it's time for me to move on.
