Hi there,

Having some trouble with AutoPlay on my XP Pro sp3 machine. In days of yore (more specifically not so long ago) when I inserted my camera's compact flash card, AutoPaly would start giving me the options of how to open. One of those options was to download using PhotoShop Bridge and the grey window in the lower half would open.

Recently, that is not happening; Instead, AutoPlay fires up and I get the screen shown in the top of the attachment; no download option, just open the folder. To download, I have to start PhotoShop and Bridge and from the Bridge menu, select 'get files from camera' (bottom half of the attachment.)

How do I get back to AutoPlay opening with the open options? I have it selected in the relevant drive properties, but it does not start as I want. I have used the MS fix, but that again, does not start it as it used to.

Grateful for any suggestions.

Thanks

Rex

Don't know what key or key combo she hit. Is this a hidden feature of XP? A "Ester egg" type situation?

Hi, I just installed XP Pro with SP3 on a Gateway E-4000 with 2 GB ram and 2.4 ghz CPU. I keep having a problem with services failing and the need to reboot. I have re-installed XP to get to this point after having difficulty updating drivers. I think that the chipset drivers were causing problems. This is an older PC, it was introduced in 2002 and I was given it to try and salvage it. It originally came with XP home edition, but I couldn't locate the service packs so I installed XP Pro.

I was going to install Driver Manager to help with the driver installation as I have this on another machine and it's now free. Any recommendations for installing the drivers as I had a problem before with the chipset driver? Are there other things that I can check that might keep the system from crashing? When is not worth the effort to continue? Thanks in advance for any help!!

My daughter had a HP Media Center running XP Professional.

She had to reboot yesterday and the splash screen (Windows logo) just staid up forever. She looked online which told her to do a mbrfix command in the recovery screen. Further the internet site told her to ignore the warnings....yikes.

Well, she ignored and now when she boots up (or tries to) she gets a quick HP logo and then it goes to black screen with a single message "Invalid Partition Table".

When I try cntrl-alt-delte it goes right back there. Note: I have a split second and can get into BIOS...but I cannot get back to recovery console.

I do have Kapersky and Reatogo on disk and they will both load. Cant see if they give me anything but I tried (although REATOGO has a mbrfix icon????)

Also she does not have the Boot CD.

I do have access with this computer to download for her.....

Thanks in adavnce

Good day everyone,
You all have been a great help to me in the past so I come back for more help!
I have a Compaq computer p4 system with 1 gb of ram, basic system running Windows XP Pro, that I am troubleshooting for someone. Currently when the computer boots up it goes to the logon screen with her user name and the box with the domain. No password is required as there is not one currently. Ok, so she would like to go back to the basic windows boots up and goes directly to the desktop. I have tried using the run command "control userpasswords2 " ans "control userpasswords"but there is no option in there.
I have tried to go to user accounts in control panel and when I double click to make changes I get the same box of options as the run command. There is no options for fast user switching etc. that you normally would see when in control panel.
Am I missing something here?
Does it have anything to do with the domain?
This computer is just a home computer and is not part of a network btw.
Thanks again!!

Recently, because I was becoming annoyed that every time I fired up the computer, the CD /DVD was starting to play, I turned AutoPlay off.

Unfortunately, that seems to have also turned off the card reader. Previously, when inserting a card from my camera, the Adobe Bridge file transfer started and I could copy files to the HDD. Now I have to start it manually from Bridge.

I have been to the relevant drive and checked AutoPlay for Pictures, but still, Bridge does not start. What should I be looking for to get this feature back?
had slowed to a crawl. Clicking icons on my desktop would open applications only after several minutes (rather than seconds). I was able, however, to get to the internet and I performed a complete system AV scan, that showed no threats.
Some three hours later, for no apparent reason the sluggishness seems to have disappeared!
