Anyone know the way to the 'networking for dummies' class? I'd like to figure out the basics of networking, which system to use, and then how to use it, etc. It seems most of the posts here are dealing with technical aspects over my head. I'd like to 'network' 2 (later more) home computers, and don't know the first thing about it. Know a good place for me to start?

Thank you. Just what I was looking for. Something to explain the basics, and with just enough detail so I go off and research the 'parts' of the system as time permits. I tried to find out some of this on my own but what I was finding seemed way to technical to understand. Appreciate your time.

Grab two Ethernet Cards and a Crossover cable and plug em in, write into here why they can’t see each other, get that problem solved and onto the next. Then the next thing you know your buying a Hub, then a Switch, then Server Software, then making up a Linux Router and Apache Server……………………..

Is this the 'infamous' DrBass who reffered me to Roy's place??? Imagine that! This is Wizard with the cheap bass with the (fixed!) neck tension problem.!
I really appreciate all the help. I really just needed some pointers to the basics, so I could learn about the pro's/cons of different systems. Hate to 'chose' something only to find out later something else would have suited my purposes better. Remember programming in BASIC??!!! I can't even run the programs unless I set up an antique machine.
I think it was Ethernet that would be the most easily expanded (one line, terminated each end, each machine 'T'd into the line, did I get that right?) plus it's fast. I'm getting a DSL line and (eventually) want to access everything from anywhere in the house.
My current ISP started out like that, connecting his home and shop together, and finally ended up with a 'server'. Then figured he might as well sell 'internet service'! I don't think I'm that ambitious.
Thanks everyone for the assistance. I found enough information to make a 'reasonably' educated choice.
