Dear friends, I have a system windows2000 profesional, and it has an external modem attached to it, I configured the internet with automatic IP addresses, the modem is shered with another 3 pc´s, also with automatic IP when I try to ping from the PC with the modem, to one computer with address 10.40.1.3 that is attached to the network
it responds reply from 200.178.20.7 response lagged.
Does anybody knows why the PC with the modem doesn´t catch the address 10.40.1.3.
Any help

do a ping -a from the pc with the modem to the 200.178.20.7 address and see if the name it responds with is the same name as the PC with the 10.40.1.3 address. If it is, open up the TCP/IP properties of the destination computer and see if the 200.178.20.7 address is bound to the NIC under Advanced.

also, are you pinging the remote computer by name or by IP? Does it respond with the "other" ghost IP address even if you ping it directly by its IP of 10.40.1.3 ?
