what is finger?

I know telnet, ft, tracert, route, nbstat and etc. But i don't know what is finger ? When we need to finger? What software must we install/use when we want to finger??

LOL.... Well, If I remember correctly it's a old protocol for finding out the name associated with an email address. not used anymore and I don't remember should cover the rest.
