I have a very irritaing problem. I have DSL and I am constantly losing synch with the signal. I have upgraded my ethernet card as suggested by my server, rebooted my router, both to no avail. This is a constent problem and it happens all the time. I can't stay connected for more than 5 minutes before I lose the signal. It will resynch if I wait for it to, sometimes within seconds but sometimes minutes. ANY help??????

Make sure that you have good quality cable
throughout your entire house.
From where the phone company terminates (usually outside your house), to all jacks and phones.
Poor signal quality can cause this.
Do you hear static when you talk on the phone?

Internal or external modem? Internal the only problem could be the modem, line in house and line out side house(to fone co). External, are you losing the WAN side or LAN side? LAN side, it's your problem (NIC hub cables) WAN side, fone company's fault. Do you have all your filters installed?

Thanks. Lines are clear. It is an internal ethernet card with an external router. I am losing the LAN sides. They did not install new cable they just came and used existing phone line that runs from phone box to jack. It is a solid copper cable, I know that much. I do not know what you mean by filters. Could you elaborate on that more?

The filters go on the jacks of phones on your DSL activated phoneline. Since you're saying it's your lan side, these filters shouldn't have any effect.
Explain a little more on your setup, just one computer?
hub?
Are you using the crossover cable they gave you from the router to the hub/computer?
Have you tried another computer? Got any friends with a laptop and network card?
do a START-RUN-winipcfg, what IP are you getting? If you are getting a internet IP (vs lan 10.0.0.x) the router is (more/less) "invisible" and maybe it's broke, can't pass the info. If you are getting a 'lan' ip from the router, maybe the DHCP service is broke in the router... either way, I would have the phone co change the box out (or test it).
Be firm with the phone co, it's their responsibility to make sure you are up and running when you are paying for their service.

K, this tells me that you are using a static internet IP. Were you assigned an IP address on purpose?
The 'NDIS', is that always your NIC driver? I've seen NICs show as NDIS, but I don't know if that's good or bad. Is this a cheap NIC, what brand?
I would have the fone co come out, tell them anything. Unplug the modem and say it doesn't work to get them out there.

Thanks. The IP was assigned. I guess the rest is up to them. My biggest complaint and problem at this point is they keep saying they will but never do! I have been on them for 4 months. I signed a one year contract for the service and made the mistake of giving my debit card number for payments. They keep making promises they don't keep yet keep on taking my $$$$$!!!!

Ask your bank to refuse their payment requests - any compentant bank can do this - and tell the phone co that they get no more $$ until they get this fixed.
You should be able to talk to whomever the state regulatory agency is.
Another thought: Cancel their payments. (do this anyway) Find out who the top guy in the customer service department is - and who the Prez of the company is, write a letter to the customer service bigwig, CC the Prez, (send BOTH with return receipts), and tell them that not only are you not going to pay them any more money until they get this fixed - but you expect full credit for the time that you had the service and it did not work correctly. (for example, if this has been going on for four months - you should reasonably expect at LEAST a four month credit, (or more!), based on the loss of service.
Let us know what happens.
