windows server/linux client

i want to setup a network with my 9x machine as a server and my linux box as a client, my 9x has a cable modem and i would lie to access the net with my linux box as a client, the problem is i am unsure on how to do this because of the cable modem i don't know how to setup linux to access the internet
i am using redhat 6.2

Acctually I would set up the Linux station as the server and the winblows 9X as a client. My current network is made up of 2 Linux servers, 1 Win2K Server, and 1 win2k pro/linux station (dual boot). Linux1 is my firewall/IP Masquerading server, all other servers and workstations access the internet through it. It has 2 network cards install in it, 1 going to my network switch and the other goes to my cable modem. Once all networking was setup on Linux1, I couldnt ask for a better performing or stable server. I havent even given it a reboot in months. Or you could just get some proxy serving software for winblows 9x, Pay an arm and a leg for it (the Linux solution is FREE), setup your dns and gateway entrees in Linux and you should be golden. your gateway will be the ip address of the proxy serving win9x box, DNS you can get by typing winipcfg from the run command in win9x, select your network adapter with the cable modem on it (you will still need to network adapters), and click on more info.
I have had some problems getting Linux to work through Microlost proxy server in the past, so read all documents for the software you choose before you buy to look for incompatabilities. You may want to check out WinGate proxy server. If you have any questions please post.

Another vote for using the Linux box as the "router." There is a program called PMFirewall (for Linux) that makes it easy to setup this up. I havn't tried it.

But if you *really* wanted to use the 9x machine as the proxy, try: http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/proxy.htm . It's free, and easy to use.

I'm using it to share a dial up connection from an NT 4 machine. But only until I get the Linux box sorted.
