setting up router for cable connection

Have networked 3 computers and all can see each other, but only 2 are able to share cable (Road Runner) connection.I have all 3 connected to a hub and the cable modem connected to the uplink port of a router. I am figuring the problem is in the configuration of "something" , but I have it set up the same as the other client. It has a 3Com etherlink III 16 bit ISA adapter, which is about 4 years old. Wondering if updating these drivers would help? Keep getting "can not find server or DNS error"

What IPs are you getting from the router? start-run-WINIPCFG
is the third computer getting an IP?
Does the router light up for that computer?
What happens if you unplugged the other computers and put computer3 in one of their spots?

The NIC, 3c509? If it is the drivers are fine, I've used them in 95 machines with no problems. It's a standard card and drivers.

Pakrat,

I tried connecting to another port in the hub(the one client #2 had been in) & got my connection! Next, plugged client #2 back in where client # 1 had been and now I have 3 working connections! Does this make any sense? I would think possibly I had not had the cable plugged in tight, except I had Networking through the LAN with no problem.

from a working pc can u ping the non working machine, from the non working machine can u ping the loopback 127.0.0.1

If it worked after u swaped the cables, either one cable was loose, or dust on the connecter http://discussions.virtualdr.com/smile.gif

If this router is the one I'm thinking of, it has a switch built in. Switches tend to remember who[computer] was plugged into that port. I've had the same deal where one couldn't play. Unplugged the switch for a few seconds and plugged it back in and it was fine. It needed to forget who was plugged in.
