I have Win98 SE and a network installed. Just two computers with Realtek NIC's and a 3Com 4port hub. I am trying to install wingate to share the Internet. My internet server is set up ok, but my client machine doesnt find the server. I run a ping to the adress of the server (that has a static IP 192.168.0.1) and I get the 'destination host unreachable' msg. The TPC/IP protocols are installed in both computers, binded with the NIC and dial adapter, as well as the NetBEUI protocol, because without NETBEUI the network is not detected. I would like to know what can I do to solve the problem.
My client machine is set to obtain an automatic IP and dns's disabled.

If you configured you client machine to obtain an automatic IP. Do you have a DHCP server in you network?

If you don't have a DHCP Server you will not obtain an IP address, therefore you can't ping your server.

I hope that helps.

What IP address and Mask does your machine and the server have ?
Run WINIPCFG for a list of IP settings allocated to your adapter. If they are blank, then you have no address - and therefore no network access.
If they are complete, check that the mask is compatible with the server mask.
