This is a new one for me. Somehow one of my users changed the name of their Inbox in Outlook 2000. You can right-click it and the rename is grayed out. You can go to properties of the inbox in the General tab and there is a field to change the name, but it wont let you type a new name. Upon right clicking here it comes up with these instructions:
"specifies the folder name. To change the name of the folder, simply type over the existing name with the new name. You must the appropriate permissions to change the name of a public folder."
What are these correct permissions?

Matt,
though I'm not running OL 2000, but OL 98, I'll try to explain.
In OL 98, public folders are made and distributed by admins and others with the appropriate permissions. - This should mean that you must have permission to read topics.
To control the status of permissions (in OL 98): Click 'Folderlist' - rightclick the specific public folder you want to control the permission status of - then click 'Properties' in the pop-up menu.
Click on 'Resume' (perhaps = 'Summary' in the English versions) - the permission is shown under 'Your permissions'. If you don't have 'Resume'/'Summary', but instead 'Permissions', you have owner's permissions.
If neither 'Resume'/'Summary' nor 'Permissions' are shown, you have no permissions to change anything about the folder.
Hope this may be a little helpful to you.....
Kind regards,
Lotte G., Denmark

If you have upgraded Outlook, run the old exchng32.exe to change the folder name or use a VBA macro (http://www.cdolive.com/modifydefaultfoldernames.htm).
