Now this has been bothering me for quite some time..... http://discussions.virtualdr.com/frown.gif

This is the situation:
I turn on my computer (a laptop, Win98 environment), which has been turned off for the night. When I need to write a letter, I start Word97 and expect it to open in a maximized window - but it doesn't! - That is, it doesn't the first time I open it during this day....if I maximize the window, write my letter, and close Word, and then open it again later, it will open in a maximized window.

I have created my own tool-line (pardon my 'bad' English here - I have a Danish version of Win98 and Word97 and do not know all the English terms) with shortcuts to all my Office programs, also Word97.
In my Start Menu I also have a shortcut to Word97.
Both shortcuts are set in Preferences to run maximized. But it still doesn't..... http://discussions.virtualdr.com/frown.gif

What am I doing wrong http://discussions.virtualdr.com/confused.gif

Any help appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Kind regards,
Lotte G., Denmark

Start word & maximize it
Hold down the CTRL key & exit word. That should force it to retain the settings
See if that takes care of it

Lotte, with an IE window the way you set the window size is to open IE and get it to the size you want, then hold down the "shift" key and close the window, don't know if this will do it with Word

DVOM,
sorry - your suggestion failed to help.... http://discussions.virtualdr.com/frown.gif

But in another I've now got another suggestion: To manually resize the window and NOT by clicking the 'Min/Max' button. I'll try this and will post back with result.

Try this:

Right-click the Word shortcut, either on quickstart, desktop, or start menue.

Choose properties. In the "Run as" popdown list choose "Maximized".

This actually WORKED ! http://discussions.virtualdr.com/biggrin.gif
The window is not "really" maximized, but the illusion is good enough.....
