Error in MSO9.DLL

Every time I try to open an Office 2000 application, I get an errormessage. The error is in MSO9.DLL I have tried reinstalling, but it doesn't help.

Me too! - ours only crashes in word after doing something (well anything really), sometimes after only a couple of keystrokes.

I've removed all hardware except the video card, updated the bios on the motherboard (a Gigabyte GA-5SG100 and still no joy :-(

I recently installed FrontPage 2000. Now every time my computer starts I get the: "A required .DLL file, MSO9.DLL was not found."

So far I've found fixes every where that say reinstalling Office 2000 or Outlook 2000 and other combinations dealing with those programs will fix this (Or not, according to comments on this board). My problem is I don't own Office or Outlook 2000. I have Office 97 and Outlook Express.

I did try reinstalling Office 97 and FrontPage 2000 just incase it would help, but to no avail.

Please don't tell me I have to purchase an Office 2000 upgrade just to fix this. Will the Office 2000 SR-1 patch fix it with just FP2000 installed?

Well, It's been about six months and no responses. Guess this is a perm. mystery?

Seems MS tech help doesn't respond on their site either.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, you must reinstall Microsoft Office 2000. If you installed Outlook separately, just reinstall Outlook.

Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.


In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.


In the list of programs, click either Microsoft Outlook 2000 or Microsoft Office 2000, depending on how you installed Outlook.


Click Add/Remove.


After Office Setup begins, click Repair Office.


Click Repair errors in my Office 2000 installation, and then click Finish.


The repair process may take several minutes while Office Setup repairs any damaged or missing files. If you receive a prompt to restart your computer, click Yes.

MORE INFORMATION
Mso9.dll is a primary Office file. If the file is damaged or missing, all Office applications do not function correctly.

Substitute FrontPage where Outlook is listed.

Yes... No positive results. But I figured it out on my own (See below).

Again, and this includes the other responses: Explaining that reinstalling Office 2000 as a solution doesn't help when it keeps being pointed out to everyone that I don't have Office 2000, just the Stand Alone version of FrontPage 2000!

"You only have Frontpage 2000?" Well, how about reinstalling MS Money! That should fix it!"

Sorry, but sometimes I think a little sarcasim get's the facts through to people better sometimes. Why would people insist on telling me to reinstall a product I SAID I didn't have in the first place!?

ANY way.... _A_ solution for My problem that caused this particular error:

I have Office 97 (Yes, reinstalling this didn't help, which I had tried before coming here in the first place). I thought maybe there was some kind of annoying MS error happening between it and FrontPage 2000 (Like the Famous Access 97 error that would happen when you try to reinstall it).

Well, I found that if you have a partitioned drive, like I do, do NOT accept the option of installing MS Office programs in a different location. At least if that location is not the same Drive as Office.

Once I removed FrontPage from the other ("F")drive and placed it in "C" where Office was, the MSO9.dll Error went quietly away. I guess Office programs don't like being too far away from the "C" drive. Another MS quirk resolved. (Note: I have PhotoDraw on "F" without any problems).

Hope this "different" cause for this error is a help to someone.
