WORD97 Hangs

I have a friend whose WORD97 hangs when she clicks to open it. All she gets is a screen outline of WORD97's format and it hangs. THe only way to start is to reset. THe funny thing is that if she clicks on a *.doc it opens normally and everthing works.

Office 97 and been completely uninstalled and reinstalled to no affect. Same performance. Everything else works fine. I thought it might be an old DLL but could find none by looking (an exhausting task)

ANy suggestions as to what to do next?

I would try installing the two service packs for Office first.

Hopefully these two will cure problem. I have had to uninstall Office and then reinstall to correct problems such as this one before.

I am using the latest version of MSOFFICE97 (with SR-2) on it.

Got any other suggestions?

After you uninstall Office, do a complete shutdown/reboot before re-installation.
