i have optimum online and i am searching the web or going from site to site and the msn sign in screen pops up like once every 5 sites i go to...and it wants me to sign on msn.. but when i x out of it then on my taskbar tray i have my little msn messenger sign there and when i close that i finally x out of the msn.. all i want to do is keep msn and just go on it whenever or if i need to....does anyone no how to get that msn screen to stop popping up...do i have to uninstall msn or something...and i think my computer came with it when i bought it..

Try the following step:

1. MSN Mesenger Options
Load MSN Messenger
Go to Tools > Options
Click on the Preferences tab
UNcheck the boxes beside "Run this program when Windows starts" and "Allow this program to run in the background"
Click on Apply and OK your way out.

Now try this also:

2. MSCONFIG
Go to Start > Run and type in msconfig in the run box
In the tabbed box, click on Startup tab
You will see a list of programs. All these are programs that initiate when you start-up your pc.
Locate MSMGS (or something similar) and UNcheck it.
Click on Apply and OK your way out.
You will need to reboot for the effects to take place!

That should solve your MSN problems...MSN Messenger can be a pain in the arse, but the aforementioned procedures should help curb the problem http://discussions.virtualdr.com/biggrin.gif

Oh, I forgot...try the following together with my above post:

Open Internet Explorer
Go to Tools > Internet Options
Click on the Connections tab
Click to put the dot beside "Never dial a connection"
Click on Apply and OK your way out!
This will stop MSN Messenger from trying to dial-out every few mins. I think this is the main problem!

thank you mo....i just did all the things u told me to do.......and i will fool around like go to sites and then i will see if it pops up again...i already knew about the run and msconfig stuff...i am on top of the things that start when i start up my computer...i will post back probably tomrow or tonight..and tell u my results...and thanx for all your help

mo i have a quick question for ya....when i go to the things that start up when i go to run and then to msconfig.......and i have 6 boxes checked...i have

1)zonealarmpro thats the zone alarm
2)navapw32 is my norton antivirus im pretty sure
3)i have WkDetect???????? do u no what that is???
4)Updreg??????? i dont no what that is either...do u know?
5)RUNDLL32?? once again no clue...do u have a clue?
6)MMkeybd...i no thats for the keyboard but do i need that checked when my comp starts?

Hi Pennyberg7:

WkDetect is program that automatically looks for updates for Microsoft Works. You can do that manually yourself. Uncheck it.

Updreg is a Reminder to register the Creative Sound Blaster Live! card Uncheck it.

)RUNDLL32.EXE is required for Dial Up Networking.

MMkeybd is a One-touch Multimedia Keyboard for HP systems. Defines the destination of the shortcut buttons. When you connect to the net it contacts HP at network startup. You have to disable it if you don't want this to happen but that will prevent ALL extra buttons from working though.
