A friend used an AOL disk to set up the program for 500 free hours. At the end of the free time she decided not to sign up for AOL. She did not cancel in time so they billed her credit card for 1 month at which time she called AOL and cancelled. The 1 month charge showed up in her CC billing. That was a month ago. Today I checked her computer and AOL is still active. I was able to send and receive. Is she liable for any further payment to AOL? I don't know if she emailed AOL to cancel---but she did tell them over the phone.
Thanks

Burt, I'd call them again to make sure they've shut off your charges, and keep a close eye on the credit card. As far as I know, they all require you to call to cancel.

Burt, don't know if you have managed to sort this yet but my advice would be:

It might be worth uninsatlling AOL from the PC then at least there isn't a chance of accidently connecting using AOL. Then if they do come up with another bill then you have two excuses:
1. Telephoned to cancel account
2. AOL not even installed on PC any longer (Make a note of the day you uninstalled). Then see if anything crops up after that date.

It would be worth telephoning again and this time take a record of the time and date and who you actually speek to.

Please keep me posted.

I wnr through the same thing a year ago. AOL was able to tell that I hand't logged on. They gave a credit to my CC.

I think it would also be a good idea for your friend to call her credit card company and let them know what is going on. She can put any further billing in dispute (most major charge cards have this feature).
