Hi,
I hope you guys can help me out if you have MSIE versions lower than 5, or if you have Netscape versions lower than 4.
Please go to my page at http://members.home.net/happycatmeows/testing/test8a.html and see if any javascript errors pop up. If errors pop up, is the image rollover still working? The page is very small, maybe around 4KB.
Thanks.
Helen

Actually, when making a website (mine is an online store), should I really take into account these lower browser versions too? are they still common browsers?

I would forget about any browsers lower than 4. It's hard enough designing sites to keep both browsers happy. Anyone who is not interested in upgrading their browsers aren't worried too much about how pages are displayed on the net so I'd forget them.

If you want to be truly compliant with 3X versions of browsers, then check out this Compatibility Chart. (http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/reference/browser_chart/) I am not too concerned with 3X browsers myself, but you will have to think about your target audience. There are still a good number of folks that use them. You will notice though, that if you don't get too ambitous, regarding DHTML, and use CSS carefully, you can be pretty safe. And as the wise ones say, "Test, Test, Test". By the way, all I get on your URL, are three image place holders, and the row of "links" on the left. No rollovers or errors, using IE 6.

HelenWent there with IE 5.5 and didn't see anything except 3 boxs on top and on the left margin the word link 11 times with the #'s 1-11 written next to them. The 3 boxs have sweet factory written in them with a small red arrow.

Thanks for the replies. You guys are really helpful!
I'm glad I got a response for IE6 too. I wanted to test it myself but discovered that I can't have 2 IEs on the same OS. So now I don't have to test it on IE6 and IE5.5 anymore. http://discussions.virtualdr.com/smile.gif)) It saved lots of my time. (I was gonna make 2 new partitions and install those browsers)
After seeing these replies, I'm thinking that like you guys said, it's either they don't care or they can't upgrade. So I guess I'm just going to go with what I have since it won't affect the lower browser versions too much (it's just a small rollover image to make navigation easier). To be more backward compatible, I'm not going to use DHTML, and for CSS, I'm only using the hover for links.
Yeah the image placeholders..just wanted to save people's downloading time for testing it so I didn't upload those images.
