we have a firewall here that blocks the port chat uses, does anyone know how to make it go to port 80? the firewall team suggested this to me, but did not know how to do it. they also said they did not have ability to exclude certian IP addresses or computers from chat blockage, would really impress my CFO if someone could help him out.
Thanks,

The ports must match between the client and the server that it is attempting to communicate with. Think of it this way - The IP address is like the street whereas the port is the house number. Forcing your client to use a port other than what the program normally communicates with (and the server is listening to) is like being on the right street (IP address), but knocking on the door of the wrong house (port) - you won't be answered by the party (chat server) you are seeking.
You can't specify a port that is different than the one the server is listening to or will answer.
There are some programs that are designed to tunnel through firewalls, but they have the potential of opening your internal network to the outside. With the potential of your corporate computers being compromised by hackers and having their communications posted on the internet over letting somebody chat, you have to ask yourself - Is it worth the risk? To me, the answer would be an easy "no".
