I have not been able to access my Hotmail e-mail account for 2 days now. I get a message it may be their server is having problems, or my computer connection is at fault. Since I am on a cable modem, and my computer is on all the time, and I have no problem accessing all my OTHER e-mail accounts, I presume it is MSN's server problem....... http://discussions.virtualdr.com/smile.gif

Doubt it. I use MSN and Hotmail and have experienced no problems accessing my account. Have you "Signed in" with your passport? Do you accept the Hotmail cookie? Have you contacted MSN?

Same here! I've just checked into my Hotmail account and it is fine. Contact MSN A.S.A.P!

Yes I contacted MSN. I had tried every possible combination to get it, with no luck. Since I needed to anyway because of other considerations, I un-installed IE5, re-installed it, and everything is back to normal. MSN Customer Service has never been too helpful to me in the past. They always make you sound like your an idiot. Oh, well. It's fixed. I'm happy. Thanx everyone. http://discussions.virtualdr.com/smile.gif

That's probably because M$ pays them too little for them to care much.

I cannot access Hotmail with IE5 but do not have a problem with Netscape! Is there a security setting or something I can adjust?

Hi all. Recently, I got a message from Hotmail saying that I had to change my password, as it only had 6 characters, and they now require 8, and that I could have problems logging in. Don't know if that will solve anybody's problems.

I don’t know what your problem is, but I’ll bet it’s hard to pronounce.

I imported my Hotmail emails into Outlook yesterday. (Don't know if those with problems are accessing from Outlook or from MSN.) If problems arise from accessing via Outlook, I just received this message from MSN today 1/8/01: Our goal is to provide you with the best email experience possible. This service is in beta, which means that we're still working to make it even better. Please be patient during this phase.

As iwegan mentioned, there is a new password policy. I received this email via Outlook, dated 1/8/01:
Hotmail has a new password policy. Passwords must be at least eight (8) characters long and may have only numbers (0-9) and upper and lowercase letters (A-Z, a-z). If you are an existing Hotmail user, it is recommended that you change your password at www.hotmail.com. (http://www.hotmail.com.) There may be potential issues logging in if your password is not updated.
