hey there...

i picked up an old 286 pc the other day and it's running dos v5.0. so on the recomendation of a friend i thought i would update it to w3.1 cos i wish to use it for word processing etc. However, it wouldn't install this as it did not have enough extended memory....

Have i picked up a computer that will be of no use to me or can i install some software that will let me word process which is fundamentally what i got it for...

please help...

Hi,
If you want to run WIN 3.1 on a 286, 1M or more of memory, VGA graphics adapter, hard disk with 5M to 10M available storage, 1.44M disk drive and Dos 3.1 or higher; are considered minimum requirements.

You might be better off to just install old Works 2.0, if you want it for word processing.
