BOOTDISK DESTROYED and No support from PC Manufacturer!

Well all, I am in dire need of some quick PC Education. When I was reformatting the HD I had a big problem when my system/bootdisk didn't work. Corrupted/ruined/tampered with/ I have know idea what is what. To start with I have a p5-100 pentium gateway 2000, the start up disk or bootdisk was booted and always gave the remark "Starting MS DOS 6.22" before loading windows. I asked assistance from G2K ans they gave me instructions to make another bootdisk with the proper driver for my CD ROM 4x matsumi 1.33 ver. Fine there on the download and remake of bootdisk, but....then told to copy system files only before finishing, (off a different newer computer) Gateway Solo Laptop. Now, when I try to boot up the system it goes into reading that it is missing Operating system. What do I do now? Do I make another boot disk? How? Where? I have a new larger HD to install. SHould I install the new HD first and try again with a new bootdisk? Someone gimmie a clue. Thanks

Hi!
Go to BootDisk Com (http://www.bootdisk.com). On the page where the drivers are, DOS 6.22 is near the bottom. Hopefully the driver is there for your CDROM.

So, you have a boot disk or not?
If not, do the following.

Boot working machine.
Hold down [F8] key before loading windows9x message appears.
Select Boot to command promopt (dos)
put disk in
type

format/s/q a:
dir/b fdisk.com > c:\f.bat
edit f.bat

place cd in front of c:\windows\...[/] and delete [i]fdisk.com
Then [File], [QUIT], using [Alt] and arrow keys.

echo copy fdisk.com a: >> f.bat
echo copy format.com a: >> f.bat
echo copy sys.com a: >> f.bat
f.bat

You now have a boot disk.
When you've installed the new hard drive, (assuming it does not come with it's own software), do the following at the a: prompt (after you have successfully booted:


fdisk

create a primary partition of at least 500meg.
Quit
It will restart.
Leave disk in drive
Place Windows CD in CDROM.
Type following:

format/u/s c:
d:
oemsetup


Tips for installing Hard Drive:
1. Install as Master: Refer to manual as all switches do not correspond to equal rules.
2. Insert Power cable.
3. Insert data cable so red line on cable faces the power cable.
4. Choose cable connect to FIRST.
5. Use the last of the two data plugs.

In addition, check your bios on your non-booting machine to make sure settings allow the machine to boot to A: first, then C:

Lets keep it simple & get back to basics.
Do you have a boot disk & the cdrom drivers? if not follow Eeyores advice.
Are you going lo load DOS & Windows 3.11 or 95?
Answer those & then lets go from there.
Its easy & theres no need to fdisk your drive.
