I finally downloaded win version 3.1(zip)6 disks. Then I realized that I needed something to unzip them. So, I downloaded WinZip. Then, when I went to unzip disk 1...Because the file that i was unzipping had a "setup" involved...It wanted to perform the set up on my computer. I do not want win 3.11 on my computer, which is currently running on windows 98. I want to move the downloaded win 3.11 (currently zipped and stored in my C drive) to floppys to install in a 95 gateway-386. I tried to unzip disk 2 which doesnt have the setup info, and I had it unzipped and when it asked which folder i wanted to put it in...I put A drive. The box said that it was unzipping and i could see that it was going to the disk that I had in my A drive...However, 1\2 way through...it said that an error had occured. Said that error was probably d\t lack of disk space. but it didnt allow for me to put in a new disk and continue...So anyway...How can I accomplish this? Do I have to even unzip the files to move them to the floppys? Am I going to need a gazillion flopys to handle all the info? If I dont have to...I'm sure that they will have to be unzipped at some point before or after they are installed into the Gateway, right? A computer that doesnt have the means to unzip? And if I install winzip for 3.1 in the gateway...dont I have to have windows to do that??....The very program that I am trying to install!!!! arghhhhhhhh!!!! Help Please!!!

How to unzip win31 zip disk.

Working with Zip files can be E-Z if you know the right thing to do.
Or you can clutter up your hard drive with a lot of unzipped files.
Most of you reading this are useing Win98 or 95 and are coping to
disk and useing it in Win 31.
First open Windows Explorer go to A:Click on with left mouse mouse
button ,hold an drag and drop on your desktop and or taskbar.
To copy a zip file to a disk, use Winzip Classic to open the zip file.
With a disk in your A: drive click on your shortcut to A: and open it .
Now with WinZip and A: both open you are ready to copy from the
Zip file to A:
Now place your mouse at the right side of the files click and hold
now drag the mouse to the left. Now drag the mouse all the way down
untail you reach the end of the files.
Now the files should all be BLUE in color.
Just put the mouse on any file, and drag and drop to A:
I would like to add this. After you copied the first disk.don't unzip 2-6 to your setup disk for if you do it will be in a folder within the setup disk and you willn't make it past the first disk. You can unzip disk 2-6
then go to the C prompt and to unzipped. Then to each director and copy it to the setup disk.
If you don't do this right the first time don't give up just keep trying.
To install put disk one in drive A:and type setup and press enter.

Also if you download Dos 6.22 it will
be a self extracking file. Here is what to do.

After downloading.Unzip the file.It will be in c:\>unzipped
Have three blank disk ready.lable them Dos 6.22 setup disk # 1
Dos 6.22 setup disk # 2 and Dos 6.22 setup disk # 3
Open the first folder and click on contents.
More files has been added close any windows that now may be open.
Plase disk # 1 in A drive.
In the same folder duoble click on raw wright 1 or if it is 2 then
raw wright 2 and 3 raw wright 3.
Or it is the last one on the right.
Now there are files beeing added to the disk. When it is done now do the other
other two the same way.
Now to install.Plase disk one in drive A: and reboot.

When unzipping the file you got a message about lack of space? Did your diskette have other files on it? Did you run scandisk to make sure the diskette was good?

As Tango2000 said, "unzipping is E-Z".

Here is how to do it in PKZip. Make sure you have a clean, formatted diskette in drive A.

Click on File
Click on Open
Select the zip file you want to unzip then click on Open
Click on Extract
Click on Extract Files
Where it says Extract TO: enter A:\ then click on extract.

That's it.
