It is my understanding that Win 98 setup offers a 'small' version for installation. I was wondering if this 'small' version would run on a 486sx, 66mhz, 64mbRam, 161mb HD? I am aware that formatting the HD would be necessary for any type of installation ( just to insure that I have the room).

Of course, I would also like to install internet access ( probably AOL or a Free service) and was wondering if the software would be able to run smoothly with Win 98 on such an old PC.

Finally...I think my poor ol 486 lost 32 mb of RAM! I installed 64mb ( 2 32mb 72 pin simms)and I had 64mb for a long time. Now when I go into DOS and type MEM....it tells me there are only 32mb. What the heck could have happened?

Thanks for any tips, tricks or advice you may be able to offer!

Thank you for the heads up on the 98 lite software.

Does anyone know how to help me out with my RAM problem? ...I think my poor ol 486 lost 32 mb of RAM! I installed 64mb ( 2 32mb 72 pin simms)and I had 64mb for a long time. Now when I go into DOS and type MEM....it tells me there are only 32mb. What the heck could have happened? The modules are not loose and are only a year old, so I don't think one of them is fried.

Thanks for any tips, tricks or advice you may be able to offer!

Hi LL,
Check in your BIOS to see if the 64mb appears there. Even though it is in the slots tight...check to see if the contacts are clean....Also you can see on boot up if it is recognizing the ram there as it counts off....also try taking one out...boot with one and see if it shows 32mb...then put the other in by itself and see if that one shows 32mb....you'll find out if one of them is bad. Also switch them in the slots...in case a slot is bad.
Best of Luck,
Dave
