Igor M September 29th, 1999, 01:48 AM Hi, After low level formating you need to boot from a diskette, run FDISK and create partition(s) on your drive. Then reboot and format C: drive with FORMAT C: /S command. Then if you created more then one partition you need to format other drives with FORMAT D: etc. (Make sure you have FDISK.EXE and FORMAT.COM files on your boot diskette.) ------------------ Good luck, Igor M Blur September 29th, 1999, 03:27 AM hi.. how many partition should i create? Any guide on this? After formating the c: , will i have to install all the drivers? Or can i just put the Win95 CD in my D: and setup straight away?? Appreciate if anyone can help. Ed Schmoe September 29th, 1999, 03:48 AM The number of partitions depends on your type of FAT and HDD size. If you have FAT 16, each drive can be up to two GB in size. FAT32 can support drives up to two terabytes. You must have a PRI DOS partition. The rest is optional. Once you have formatted your drive simply type setup at the D: prompt. Also it is important that your boot disk is a universal boot disk or a WIN98 start-up disk, as WIN95 start disks lack CD-ROM drivers. bicks October 13th, 1999, 04:34 PM hi, I same problem. My HDD is out of use. only BIOS detect this hardware! and when I use Fdisk my system not responding(hang up)!Is there another chance to repair (software format) my HDD? prc01 October 14th, 1999, 05:29 PM Bicks, If you have an IDE (ATAPI) drive, it should not be "low level formatted", except with the Hard Drive manufacturer's low level formatter. The normal DOS format command is not "low level". If it is an IDE drive and has been formatted with someone else's low level formatter, then it needs to be reformatted using the manufacturer's formatter (often available from their website). Then use fdisk, then DOS format. If it is an earlier drive; such as RLL, I don't know what the problem might be. virtualdr.com
