hi there,

Can someone help me with the following:
I installed WindowsNT on a pentium, but after a while the startup screen gave some weird messages. I formated the HD to reinstall NT. But after formatting, the damn thing wouldn't let me label it. It just hanged. I rebooted the PC and tried to install dos on it, but when dos tries to analyse the HD nothing happens. I can't
install anything on it.
I someone could tell me what i'm doing wrong.

Do you have a win95/98 startup disk? If you can boot up with a startup disk just type at the a: prompt:
sys a: c:
to copy the system files to the hard drive, you should be able to boot up & install then.
If that doesn't work you may want to use fdisk /mbr to make sure the master boot record didn't get damaged and caused the original problems.
Good luck.

Tried that but didn't work. The problem is not that I can't access the HD. When pressing F3 while setting up dos, then getting back to A: prompt, then I can access C:. Also not a problem to run fdisk, format and scandisk. But it just won't let me install dos. Because like i mentioned in my previous post, when dos tries to analyse the hd in the setup screen nothing happens.
Hope i don't bore ya :0

Since you're going to install NT on it, why bother installing DOS? If you can boot from the drive, leave it at that and install the cd-rom drivers then NT. Are you sure it's the hard drive that's your problem and not your disks? Maybe try a different set of disks if it's possible since you said you can run other commands, just not install from that disk.
Good luck.
