In the last month, I have added CD Rom, sound card, speakers, and memory to my IBM 330-466 DX2.
Then I upgraded Windows 3.1, to 95, Excel & Word to Office 97, and installed ICQ, IE, & Prodigy. (& the new Winzip)

Believe it or not, I have only 1 really aggravating problem. Each time I boot this machine, I get the POST error 1762:
configuration change has occured (yeah, no joke). Sometimes, just for a change, I
get 1762 & 162.

I know a configuration change has occured. I can't seem to find the solution
to the PC's problems in setup. How can I get it to quit telling me this, and to just get on with it's POST?

Thanks so much,
Marie

Hi,

Try just enter CMOS setup and select Save & Exit. In most cases it's enough.

Good luck, Igor M

Hi Igor,

I've been trying to save & exit for weeks.

Tried it again this morning, and went
into my usual loop. I saved and
attempted to exit 3 times, kept getting
"configuration change has occured"
and tossed back.

The only way out of POST is
cursor down and exit. (There are
no triangles, etc to tell me what it's
unhappy about.)

If this helps:

During one of my many diagnostics, I
was told there is something wrong with
a PCI bus. I didn't know what it meant,
didn't seem to be causing a problem,
so I ignored it.

Also, I do not have sound fully
tweaked yet. I can play CDs, so am
happy, but most/all Internet sound is not functioning. Again, this has not been
a problem, is probably preferable, so I've ignored it.

(I lost 49 customized macros in Excel
with the upgrade. THAT has been the
problem I've been putting my time into.
Finally got them all re-attached and recognized. So now I'm looking at this other stuff.)

I really do appreciate your help. I have
been to the IBM & the Microsoft sites,
and run many diagnostics which
generally come out everything's OK.

Again, I just wish the thing would POST.

Thanks,
Marie

Hello,

The 162 error is pointing to the system options not being set, and as you've stated the save and exit did not work, 1762 is within the range of IDE devices like the CD-ROM drive you installed.

You should try first printing a copy of your system configuration as it stands from the bios and then check the CD-ROM drive jumpers "some drives do not work well jumpered for cable select", and the drives connection. If all is good I would suggest clearing the bios by removing it's battery or the jumper, "some PC's have a jumper used to clear the bios". Let the PC boot and try to auto detect your setup and if it does not enter the bios information from the afore mentioned print out.

Good luck......
