Hi All

I'm trying to help my son-in-law to get his
first computer going.

It's a 486/33 16 meg ram windows 3.1 DOS 5.0

We bought a 32X Digital Research Drive CDROM.

Upon installing the driver which came with
the CDROM we quickly get to a red message which states we need MSCDEX.EXE which is
the MS extention utility (and we don't have
it)

What options do I have??

Hi,

You really need Mscdex.exe and have no other options but to find it. This file is part of the DOS so you can find it among your DOS 5.0 files. Then it must be on your CDROM driver diskette. And then it must be among Win3.1 files. (And from the post in Win95 forum I understand you have Win95 installed - then you can find Mscdex.xex file in Windows/Command folder.)

Good luck, Igor M
