Plextor CD-Rom in a Mac ???

Does anybody know if a Plextor 24X CD-Rom works on a Mac (630) and if there is a list of all CD-Rom players working on Macintosh?

Plextor makes SCSI CD-ROM drives. If the drive you are using is such, then it can likely work. However, an external drive will be easiest to set up than an internal drive. I don't have on hand the information about Performa 630 (the model number you noted), but I believe it does have an internal CD-ROM drive.

If the drive you have is an internal, all that is needed is the same SCSI cable connnector (50-pin), the power plug (standard on all PCs and Macs) and the 4-pin connector for audio output from the CD (needed only if you want audio CDs to play through the device).

If you are getting what sounds like a generic drive intended for PCs, you will need software to run the drive--the Mac OS CD-ROM extension will likely not recognize or use an internal or external foreigh drive. CD-ROM Toolkit from FWB Software (www.fwb.com) supports a number of Plextor drives.

If the drive you found is not a SCSI drive, you may be out of luck. ATAPI (IDE type) drives may only work if your computer is designed to use them and if it was shipped with such a device. Don't give up hope--FWB CD-ROM Toolkit might support such drives.
