word viewer for mac

I was sent a catalog in Word 97. I have an iMac. It was suggested that I check into word viewer, but when I go to the Microsoft freeware for word viewer all the requirements are for DOS etc. I'm really confused, please help a very green computer user.

Do you have any kind of Page-Layout programs? If so, you could place the Word file into one of them to be able to read it.

Or if you have Claris Works and Maclink Plus, you would be able to open it that way.
