External IDE drive as storage for a Mac????

I want to purchase an IDE external drive to use as storage for my company's files. The drive will be 17.2 gigs in size. But, since it is IDE, will I need a special card or cabling to hook it to the Mac??? The Mac in question is an 8500/120 PowerPc. The Mac has a SCIS connection free as well as 3 PCI slots.
