Hi All
Am having a problem that is becoming more frequent and to be honest it is baffling me! I use a login script with the net use cammand to map clients f: drives to the server. Recently the mapping is either not occuring or is dropping it's connection intermittantly during the day with the erroe f: is not accesable, but when you re-establish the command it re maps. The only things we have done recently is installed a firewall on our network and upgraded our hubs to switches. Anybody think of anything that may be causing this??

Hi
If you're using WinNT domain (not workgroup) and you've installed new WinNT server to your domain, you need to set up netlogon folder's replication.
If you've got several WinNT servers in WinNT domain, your client's will try to log on to any of these servers. If you haven't set up netlogon folder to the server the client is logging on, the mappings aren't done.
One good thing to do with the NET USE -command is to use /YES parameter at the end. If for some reason the user has mapped a folder with the same drive id (F: in this case) "NET USE F: \\Server\SharedFolder /YES" remaps in to \\Server\SharedFolder without asking for user confirmation.
Hope this helps you.

Hi,
We have similar problem, after recently upgrading network (already had the firewall, but all hubs now replaced with switches).
Sometimes a network mapping will be dropped or timeout. Getting Lost Delayed-Write Data errors (26) and Redirector timeouts (3013) in Event Viewer.
Afraid we have not found the cause of problem but we are looking into it, so will post back if there is any news.
Cheers,

When a switch first detects that a device has connected to a port, it will go into listening mode for a predetermined time. This is to prevent spanning tree loops. This may cause a number of problems (certainly with DHCP etc) as no requests will be passed via that port until it goes into forwarding mode. You may find that you will have to disable the port going into listening mode. Do NOT do this to any port that is connected to another switch. If you are using Cisco equipment, I may be able to help with configuration if needed.
Good luck.
