Hello,

On one of our NT machines, at startup, we frequently get the following message:

"At least one service or drived failed blah blah blah"

In event viewer:

"The Task Scheduler Service was not started. Reason: The service did not respond in a timely manner."

and

"Timeout (12000? milliseconds or something) service etc." before that.

Is there something specific I should look for? Would reinstalling/repairing IE 5.5 replace the task scheduler files? We can't have automated shutdowns this way, and it seems to seriously degrade performance when it happens - which, now, is almost every day.

I posted before but nobody replied so I'll try again.

When I have problems like that, I apply the service pack. Does the trick alot of times. For some more insight. http://www.jsiinc.com/subb/tip0800/rh0842.htm http://www.jsiinc.com/subb/tip0900/rh0938.htm

I repaired IE 5.5.

I reinstalled IE 5.5.

I reinstalled SP6.

Nothing worked.

Finally I tried the link you posted, messed around in the registry, and tried it again. Finally! The computer can start the scheduler service on its own lol. Obviously there was a problem with the Task Scheduler installed by IE, but - since there really is no way to completely uninstall IE and do a clean re-install, this will have to do. It'll probably work better this way anyway http://discussions.virtualdr.com/smile.gif
