Frozen IE - any way to close only one window?

When our NT workstations freeze at our library, usually patron's have four or five windows open at once. Is there any way to use task manager to close only the offending window without taking all of IE with it? I saw a registry tweak for Windows Explorer that opens each folder window as a separate process - will this work or is there a similar fix for IE or would the memory requirements be overwhelming?

Totally revised post:

I've just experimented and found that, if you open MSIE and then go File | New | Window and then use Task Manager to close that window, you close all of MSIE. Check the Processes tab before you do this and you will see only one Internet Explorer process. Check the Applications tab and you will see two Internet Explorer sessions.

However, if you open two separate instances of MSIE, you can close one of them using Task Manager and keep the second one. This is because you actually start two separate processes (check the Processes tab and you will see two Internet Explorer entries).
