DEAD PC

Hi,

For some reason my computer will not power up? Nothing happens when i push the little power button. It's just dead! I've checked to see if all the connections within my pc are right ... i they are.
I'm running a BP6 mobo with dual proc. I know that the board is equip with temp sensors but have no idea what happens when it does overheats, but the last time i shut my pc off it was making an alarm sound and it wasn't from any other programs i have installed because when i restart my comp. and see the POST it's still beeps.
How would i find out if my mobo is fried or if my power supply would be at fault???

There's some confusion here as to whether the computer is dead or beeps on bootup.

If it is dead, no lights - no sound, check the power connection, plug it into a known working power point etc.

If it beeps, make a note of the number of beeps you hear and how long they are (e.g. three long, one short). Then check your PC manual for a list of error codes. If there are none there, check on the manufacturer's web site.

If none of that helps, post back here with more detail.

If you look at the power supply does it have a fan inside it? If so, does it sound/look like it's functioning when you power up?

If it doesn't show any signs of life I think your PS is at fault.

Your machine alarm sound could have resulted of a failed CPU fan, it may also be worth testing the fan on another PC to see if its still working.

I was running NT when all of a sudden it would beep, i wasn't doing anything at the time it was just on for about a day or two. The beeps were like an alarm of some sort, high pitch then a low pitch continuously even while shutting down.

This has happened before but i neglected the sounds. What i did previously was just let my comp. cool down for an hour or two then i'd turn it back on, with no problems. At the end of the day i noticed that it would start beeping then i'll turn it off immediately. I had a feeling it would be a heat issue and was considering upgrading my CPU fans and adding addional fans to circulate the air, but im too late now http://discussions.virtualdr.com/frown.gif

Is there any way that i could test my power supply to see if it could be the problem? And if it does work what else could be setting the alarm other than the CPU fan not working??

Unplug your System at the computer, wait a few seconds, then plug it back in. When you plug it back-in check the fan to see if it comes-on for an instant. If the fan does not sense the power and not respond, then its probably your PS. Good Luck.
