This is going to be a stupid question....but, is there a way to put a bios passord on a nt4.0 machine. I have a user who swears that his computer is turned on in the morning when he gets into work. He says he always shuts it down, but I want to be sure that no one is getting into his machine after hours. I tried the usual reboot and hitting delete to get into the bios but nothing happened. The machine just booted up as normal. I'm new to nt, so pardon my ignorance. The only screen that I got when it booted was a Intel pro chipset and then it booted up to the login. Thanks in advance.

In General NT4 doesn't have any effect or control on Bios Passwords, If Delete doesn't get you into your BIOS controls on Boot, there is probably another key that does, (F1?). NT won't allow you to set a BIOS password, but it also won't let anybody log in without a valid password. If someone is accessing his account, tell your user to change their password. if someone else is logging on to the machine, then their username will be displayed when the next user logs in. You gert the occasional machine (mainly Laptops) that access the BIOS from the operating system, but the way each of these machines do it is different, and you will need to contact the relevant Tech support dept for your machine.

You could also check the Event Log for any after hours logins.
