I have taken over looking after a school running nt 4 server/workstation. Everything has been pretty well normal until recently. There are two account setup, one staff and one students. students can access their files and get on the internet but for some reason they can't access hotmail accounts. Anyone know of a reason for this. Once they get on the net, would anything in policy editor or accont administration block them. The staff accounts work fine.
thanks
Brent

Sounds like you are going through a fire wall that has it restricted.

What are you using for your browser? IE4 is a better solution than IE5 in this instance.
I run a small network of 2 servers and 20 clients. NT server 4 and SBS 4.5 and workstation 4 allround. I found that using the earlier versions of IE5 gave similar problems with hot mail. Aceess denied or I was thrown clean out if IE. That made for a fun day. MS may have fixed this in SP1 for IE5, I have not checked. Uninstall IE5 (good luck, doesn't seem to uninstall without earing the guts out of the uninstall files!)and reinstall IE4. This is a suggestion, trial and error sometimes prevails.

Thanks Damo..you're right on the $$. It's IE5. I'm going to try the IE Sp they just put up (i think I saw it or dreamt it - we'll find out soon enough). You'd think after 5 tries they'd get it right - like windows 2000 which Bill says is bug free..like a marshy bog
