I have NT 4.0 with service pack 5 installed. I am using MS Office 97 with service release 2. I am hooked up to a Novell fileserver with Novell 5. My network connection is 10 BaseT running at 10 megabits. I have a large Access database on the fileserver (about 75 MB). There are about 50 machines with the above configuration. On some of the machines the database opens immediately. On others it takes 10 minutes to open. Can anyone give me some ideas where to look to find out why some are so slow? Any help is appreciated.

The first thing I would do is isolate where the problem could be - namely the PCs or the network.
On one of the "slow" machines, I would copy the database to the local hard disk and change access97 so that it opens that local DB. If it is still slow then it is the local PC.
If it is OK, then it is the NW and in that case please compare ALL the components (HW and SW) of a fast and slow PC.
I would also copy a large (>300Mb) file from a "slow" PC to the server and also do the same from a "fast" PC and see what the difference is. This activity may eliminate ACCESS97.
How may protocols are you running on each PC.
Are the "slow" and "fast" PC on the same LAN segment and domain?
