**Avoid Kaspersky Internet Security 2010**

I retract ***every single thing*** I EVER said about this piece of Software.

At first glance.....it appears to be the most feature loaded Security Suite I have ever seen.

The facts are: It is sooooo dang problematic and invasive it's terminally: Pathetic!

After 3) days I finally get a reply and they say:
Hi, after reviewing your report,

You currently have 3 installed programs that are conflicting with Kaspersky.
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
SUPERAntiSpyware FreeEdition
SpywareBlaster 4.2

You will need to remove these programs off your PC.

I don't think so!
Enough is.....Enough.

It was bad enough on version 09 where they automatically removed Spybot S&D for you, but this is disgraceful.

Furthermore, you get in a little debate with the moderators on their forums, and he tries to --> HACK you, or DOS ping you!

How do I know that?
It came from another Kaspersky employee who said:

But, we here on phone support have no control over the forums.


Keep your money and DO NOT WASTE it on this software!

I'm not a Kaspersky fan (not a Kaspersky hater either!) but they are not alone in this idiotic "we must be the only anti-malware on your box" approach. It seems to be happening more and more.

The problem is that when all other scanners are excluded, and the one you have on board can't clean or even see that you have a problem, then you're sunk. And KIS/KAV does not have a 100% kill rate. NOTHING DOES!

I tested KIS 2009 for about an hour last fall. When it couldn't pass a simple port scan from Gibson Research, I dumped it, fast!

If anyone is a KIS/KAV user/fan, it's a competent program and I hope it's working out great for you. But for me, I want more than it can give...

This is exactly why I will never have a branded security suite on my computer again. I've tried several, and found them either lacking in one area or another, or supplying more "software" than I really need.

Besides generally being resource hogs, they are expensive (unless you find some kind of bargain ;)).

I put my own security suite together from freeware versions of very competent software companies. I will also uninstall any branded suite I find on a computer I work on, and install what I use immediately. With permission of course.

I suppose they do have there place in the computer world, but not mine :D.

There is no way in the world I'm gonna trust 1) single source for anti-spyware stuff.

The others flat find things that others miss, and that's been the case for years.

DON'T WASTE YOUR $$ ON THIS "Suite".

You have to wonder how much (little) effort it would take to make Kaspersky play nice with all of those programs. Certainly it could and should be done since many (most) people on line these days have gotten used to the necessity of using multiple antimalware programs and by just making a list of allegedly non-compatible spyware software instead of doing the work it makes them look

a) incompetent
b) lazy
c) petty
d) all of the above

As I recall......when version 2009 automatically removed SpyBot S&D for me, :mad:..... on the safer networking forums (http://forums.spybot.info/) there was a single box to un-tick to make it run.

Since I'm just warning my fellow members, I'm $tuck with this $75 piece of software for some time.

Maybe there are similar things on the mfgrs forums that deal with the same issue. :confused:

It might just be a Vista, or a 64 bit issue, because it runs fine on my really old docked D'heLL laptop, running XP Pro.

I've got a RAID array on my new i7 desktop, and just used my third license today.
It's running XP Pro until 7 is officially released.

Whatever you do: Do NOT debate this on the Kaspersky forums with a Picasso wannbe, or you'll be subject to denial of service pings and other plain vandalism.

Hmmm, notice how ANY AND ALL COMPETITION is in that list! I sense ulterior motives.....

Please tell me their antivirus also isn't like this, because I've actually heard good things about it.

It is not limited to just Kaspersky.

A number of suites that have built-in malware detectors do not like it when similar software is installed.
eg. F-Secure even inquires the user during installation process if it detects conflicting software.

A possible workaround for use of suites,
During installation process,
Omit undesired options, malware detector, firewall... and install only the antivirus engine and such...

If I may ;) ... The problem with using this as a solution is that it dilutes the protection these products can give.

So, you lose either way. Install a suite and lose the ability to have a 2nd opinion. Or chop the suite up and lose it's best effectiveness... :eek:

I can't get Kaspersky to admit that their Vulnerability Scans (a standard feature) doesn't cough up all these programs many of us use.
They won't admit that some non-compatible programs they say need to go are not on that list.

Lastly...They will not i$$ue a refund.

So....This is, in concept, the best Suite I have seen.......when it works.

I have a subscription for 2) years for 3) Hard Drives.
Not Computers.

I have a RAID array on my latest desktop and I had to use 2) licenses.


Here's the deal that's working for me:

Remove the programs, upgrade in version 2009 to version 2010, build 9.0.0.463 (http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=121425), since it's not available on retail yet, then go back and install them again.

I have 2) machines running XP Pro, and Vista Ultimate.
XP changing to 7 when it's all fixed & ready to market.

Both are purrrrrring right along fine running:

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
SUPERAntiSpyware FreeEdition
SpywareBlaster 4.2
Spybot S&D
Windows Firewall and Theirs
All the members of the Community of VirtualDR !!

So.....my experience has changed slightly *if* you're stuck with this.
There is a work around.

When you run the Vulnerability Scans, no probs, except adobe for me.

It's a hassle, but might be worth it.
Not sure yet.
I am ..... Still on a learning curve.

Just be careful when upgrading to 2010 (http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=67812), and never....ever.....debate with the moderators, even politely.

They'll boot you off, as in...forever.
