Dell Latitude E5500 no sound

I have just purchased a latitude E5500 it has windows xp and windows vista business 32bit sp1.. I installed the vista business sp1 from the disc provided and have no sound. mute is off volume is up. any ideas

Did you install the driver for the sound?

Please have a look in Device Manager (Windows key + Pause/Break, then click "Device Manager in the left-hand pane), and tell us what the status of the sound card is in there.
