I use Outlook Express for my e-mail needs. I also have MS Outlook 2002, sp3
The other night, There was an auto update, not sure what it up-dated, but now, when I click on the mail icon on the MS IE menu, The Outlook program opens instead of Outlook express. How do I get my Outlook express to open instead of MS Outlook.
Also, How do I turn off the auto up-date feature
Thanks

Sludge--How do I get my Outlook express to open instead of MS Outlook?
IE Tools|Internet Options|Programs tab|on the email line, use the dropdown menu to choose OE as the default email program instead of Outlook.
If that does not work, OE Tools|Options|General tab. At the bottom make OE the Default.
How do I turn off the auto up-date feature?
If you are talking about Windows Updates, Control Panel|Automatic Updates pick the style you prefer|Apply|OK. I use "Notify me....."

Sludge: Be aware that the next MS Office update to Outlook may cause the same thing to happen again. It's a known Outlook update bug. All you need to do is change OE back to the default like you did this time.

Also, I would recommend that you still do the updates, even if it causes a few minor bumps. From a security standpoint, they are very important. If you don't update, there may be ways for malware to get into your system. And if malware does invade, the problems it could cause will make the Outlook bug look insignificant!
