I hope this query hasn't been dealt with before.
I read somewhere that you can use dvd disks for data etc.
I transferred a heap of MP3's from one machine to another, and they work
fine. When I try to play the actual DVD ina cd player I get zippo.
I can play MP3 CD's no problems, but can't get anything on 4 different players.
Is there some way I can do this.?

Is it maybe the way the dvd writes from inside to out or something.

When I try to play the actual DVD ina cd player I get zippo.DVD disks will not work in a CD-ROM drive.

(CDs will work in most DVD drives though).

If it helps, most new standalone DVD players will recognize and play dvds with MP3s and other media like wma, jpeg, divx and mpeg files.

I've yet to see any home DVD player manufactured in the last few years that won't play MP3 files. Even most cheapies at less than 100 dollars do now... You can search here...

My wife's dvd player will only see about 150 mp3s, so I place about 100 in a folder and now it will play all 500 songs by using the folder method.

You may need to do something like that.

Thanks again, you were dead right it works fine in all of my DVD players.
My original idea was to be able to use it in my car, which of course is a cd player, perhaps if I installed DVD in the car.? Can't afford that so another day.
Thanks also for the references, interesting reading.
Reason for delays is geographical location, just finished snoring.!

Now for cars, make a couple test cds and check things out.

If it is new enough, then yes it will play mp3s and the like.

Older ones, just replace is all I can suggest.

At 128 bit rate, I normally have about 10 hours worth of mp3's on a cd.

If you want to cram as many MP3's on a single CD for in-car use you could recompress them to a lower bit rate. Considering the background noise and the speaker quality in most cars you'll probably can go to 64 Kbit/s. But maybe you'll prefer 80 or 96 Kbit. It would also depend on the type of music how low you can go without it affecting the audible quality (too much). You could also reduce the sample frequency from 44 to 32 or 22 KHz for instance. You'll lose some high tones but it can be quite acceptable. Just experiment. A 64 Kbit 22 KHz MP3 is a quarter of the size of a 128 Kbit 44 KHz file

You could use CDex (http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/) for instance.

And you could also use 90 or 99 minutes (870 MB) CD-recordable media if both your writer and the player can handle these discs.
