The MBR requires at least 1 MB of disk space at the end of the disk to be used for a dynamic disk database. When creating partitions on a disk, Windows XP Professional and Windows 2000 automatically reserve 1 MB or one cylinder, whichever is greater. One cylinder can be up to 8MB, dependant on drive geometry and translation. If this space is not available, you cannot convert the disk to dynamic.
