AMD Athlon 2500+ 1.83GB
1GB DDR RAM
120GB internal EIDE 7200RPM
Radeon 9200 video card

Up until a few months ago, Windows Movie Maker was working fine to edit modest video clips/audio. I'm not doing anything huge, just having fun with small video and audio clips.

My problem is that something is now magically choking on small video projects. The video stutters, freezes, and then speeds to catch up to the audio suddenly, all while there is a LOT of hard disk activity. Processor/RAM usage spikes too.

I haven't made any changes to my system at all. This is what I've tried, to fix the problem:

1. Setting computer to server.
2. Setting disk cache to point to a separate internal drive.
3. Defragmented
4. Used utilities to clean up orphan files, scan registry, clear temp files, etc.
5. I run Spybot, Adaware, Spysweeper and Symantec Antivirus scans regularly.
6. Disabled restore points.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated. This is the only application my computer's having a problem with.

Thanks

You could try reinstalling Windows moviemaker. Could be that one or more of its files have been damaged/corrupted...

Hola, and thanks for the response. I run AV and spwyare sweeps (S&D, Adaware) weekly; ditto for hijack this and CWS Shredder. No change. I need to try the one my company has avail in the home use program.

Shame this is such a pain...I like that little app. Hopefully I'll get it running soon.

Figured this out a couple of weeks ago. Ran system file checker and all returned to normal. Also did a repair of MS Office 2003, but I tend to think the SFC did the trick. Thanks for the replies.
