Hey everyone,
Y'all are really my last hope, and I really pray that you can help me! I'm not sure if I should post this here or in networking.. but here goes.
Here is my system (I will attach DxDiag too):
Nvidia GeForce 7800GS 256MB Overclocked
3.0Ghz P4 Processor
2GB DDR RAM
Problems
Judging by my system specs, I should be abled to play most games very well, right? Not necessarily... I've had a plethora of problems ranging from processor throttling and internet connection issues and everything.. but I can't find a solution for this.
My main problem is multiplayer/PvP/online play--whatever you want to call it. In NHL '07, I time out when connecting to an IP. In America's Army, the game becomes sluggish at the server select menu, and upon joining a game my FPS drops from 30 to 0 until I disconnect without getting any play in. (Internet issues or what?) In World of Warcraft, when I join a battleground or PvP, my latency spikes and hits 5k and disconnects. (Usually accompanied with FPS drop.) In BF2142, the game is unplayable because my FPS drops until I disconnect or turn off the game in frustration. In HL2: Deathmatch, I experience same symptoms as America's Army. You get the idea.
The thing with my issues is that I do not experience the FPS drops when I play singleplayer. NHL '07, America's Army, and World of Warcraft (when not near other enemy players) run smoothly.
What's that all about?
My second problem: I'm not sure if this is related to the above problem or not, but my FPS is pretty low in most games for what it should be. In America's Army, for example, I get 30FPS on the lowest settings. The game has very low requirements so this is pretty baffling. Same thing with Half-Life 2 Ep1: the last time I played it I had pretty bad FPS.
Now I don't know if there is a connection between problem number one and two, or if they're completely unconnected, or if they're sorta connected or what. Maybe one causes the other, or maybe one doesn't.
Some info
I have a Motorola SBV5120 cable modem. I also have a Linksys BEFWS114 router. With or without the router attached I experience lag problems. One time I connected the cable modem directly to the computer and played a battlegrounds in World of Warcraft, and the FPS was BEAUTIFUL (170 almost) but after about 5 minutes the latency spiked and FPS fell with it.
I recently got an extra gig of RAM that is not the same make as my other RAM. I'm aware this it's discouraged to mix RAM, but I have had no errors. I noticed a pretty good performance boost, but nothing stunning. (HL2: episode one still runs choppy when I start firing my weapons.)
I had my Motorola SBV5120 before the lag/FPS problems occured.
Don't worry about background programs, I have none.
I overclock my 7800GS from 400/1250 to 470/1338.
I have my windows settings set for performance (so it looks like windows 98.)
I used to have problems with processor throttling, but I keep a fan on my computer now and have cleaned dust from the computer fans and Throttle Watch shows no more throttling.
I'm pretty sure all of my drivers are up-to-date. You can check my dxdiag just to make sure.
I have port-forwarding for torrents. I don't really know what port-forwarding is, but I forwarded my ports for some onlines games like WoW and nothing happened.
Windows Firewall disabled, I don't have a virus program. (Well I do, but I don't have it enabled when I play.)
Feel free to question any of the bits of information I have above--you definitely know more about computers than I do. So if you think I might have some firewall running in the background that I don't know about, tell me. Most of what I know comes from experience with computer issues.
I'll give you any information you need... just please, help me solve my problems!
Thank you very much for taking time to help me!!!!!!!!!
