I have windows xp and recently downloaded IE7. Everytime I open IE7 and start a new tab I get an error message when I close IE7. The message reads "the exception unknown software exception (0x0eedfade) occurred inthe application 0x7c812a5b" when I click "OK" I get a second error message reading "runtime error 217 at 03FAEAEA". Also, periodically if I am online for longer than an hour my internet connection has an error and IE7 shutsdown. I have a DSL connection and never had any of these problems until I downloaded IE7. should I just uninstall IE7 and go back to using IE6?

julflor--I Googled the error message and came up with this
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2006-38,GGLG:en&q=ie7+runtime+error+217+
Lots of reading, lots of ideas, some worked for some people. One of the more common was to open the StartUp tab in System Configuration Utility (msconfig) and uncheck boxes having to do with your graphics card--ATI or NVidia.
I would suggest you try to fix the problem in IE7 first. There are several reports of problems with IE6 when you uninstall IE7, though not all have the problem.

Thanks for replying welshjim. I read the search results and tried what you suggested but I still get the error.
What type of problems are people reporting when they uninstall IE7?

julflor--From this page you can see some of the problems.
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2006-38,GGLG:en&q=uninstalled+ie7+ie6+problems
However, they are very varied and may not apply to you.
Perhaps uninstall IE7. If everything works, maybe stay with 6. But if you have any problems with IE6, reinstall IE7 following the procedure here.
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html
If you still have problems with 7, again uninstall. If you have problems with 6, there are some fixes, such as http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm
Let us know what you do.

Hi Welshjim,
I went ahead and uninstalled IE7, I haven't experienced any problems since. I think I will just wait a few months before I try IE7 again. Thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it.

julflor--You are most welcome. Glad to hear the transition back to IE6 was uneventful.
