The 2KW power supply is here, requiring two power leads for those on 110 volt mains

I can just imagine the increased speed from the elecric meter turntable as the power supply is activated....:D

That is astounding, but when you look at quad core, and 4x4, and the fact that you could run 3 x 8800GTX's or 3 x R600's (soon), it's not gonna be overkill surprisingly, and we should be okay to use a single power lead in europe.....for a little while anyhoo.

If it keeps going on at this rate we'll all need a 3-phase supply installing :D

Or a direct connection to something like Grand Coulee Dam's hydroelectric generating facilities http://users.owt.com/chubbard/gcdam/html/hydro.html

6480 MW

Just in case.

And deep pockets to pay the electric bill. When you turn the beast on the lights in the neighborhood will dim. :)

To addd tothe above, reading the Jan 2007 issue of Maximum PC, the Nvidia GF 8800 GTX requires 165Watts.

Almost like the scene in Christmas Vacation where Clark cut the decorations on ,the power co. had to turn on the alternate nuclear reactor.

the Nvidia GF 8800 GTX requires 165Watts.

Yup, i got 2 x molex to PCI-E adapters, as i had two PCI-E plugs on the PSU anyhoo, i didn't use them, but i would need to for SLI.:D

Hey Liam, what's your electric bill look like?

Well, i'm on a meter, so i wouldn't know, but the numbers on the meter are going down a little faster since christmas....i have no clue as to why, must be that dang phone charger off my moby.:D

LOL guys - only one way to keep the bills low - WINDENERGY !
Coincidentally my company makes generators in the mulitKW range, to run plenty of those rigs, plus they work on an underwater turbine project too: http://freeenergynews.com/Directory/Tidal/index.html
Call me and I hook you up, providing you got ocean currents nearby - j/k of course.

Well judging from the last hardware confrence a friend of mine attended CPU makers such as AMD / Intel intend too have an 8 core CPU out too the general public no later then 2008-2010. *Recalls bill gates qoute*

"I cant imagine someone needing more then 654kb's of memory" - 1984

Which is going too start having major repercussions on the Power Supply's these monsters are going too need. Little on the newest cooling systems your going too need so you dont fry everything when a fan fails, as happen recently too me.

AFAIK 8 cores are being skipped and they are both jumping to 16, god knows why they are bringing it to the mainstream, they need to let the software catch up.

Well i agree the software is going too have too catch up and make significant improvments from where it currently stands, i begin too question the efficency of power vrs cooling systems in the future of the CPU world. We are going too have too answer some tough questions on what we actually need for the use of our pc's before any purchases. Already when consulting people about a PC purchase i begin too ask questions towards the mobility and power aspects of what there going too be using it for, before suggesting any make or model systems.

I can see the market going in away of customized cpu's and preformence issues, i imagine one day there will be markets for gaming cpu's vrs office and management cpu's but at what cost? and still i have yet too see a significant improvment on cooling technology. At the rate of technological improvments were seeing much higher preformence but the average user doesnt realilize the cause or effect of fan failure or temp in there pc. With the added power these cpu's are looking too add i imagine the core temp will raise at a steadily increasing rate. Which bakes the question when is the industry going too start digging deep and designing more advanced coolent systems for PC's? Already i feel like my PC is a giant space heater and every summer i begin my annual Watch the temp gauge contest with my friends.

Uh.....ummmmmm.....you mean....I didn't HAVE to do that? :o

And to go with the power supply requirements, the existing PCI-e connector is already obsolete and is to be replaced with a new one:

It sure is an interesting contrast....cell phones are getting smaller...pc's are getting bigger. Didn't I read some time ago that desk top pc's were supposed to be going out of style...that they weren't going to be as popular as they have been? That prognosticator missed it a little. Maybe that person was really trying to foretell the day when pc's will get so big that a desk will no longer be big enough....that it will once again take up the length of a wall.!!
