i have some home videos i need to burn to dvd. i dont even know how to start! can anyone advise? what program to download, what steps are involved. i believe one needs to convert the file from avi to something, and then burn, what all is required? would appreciate all the help i can get, im leaving for a 10 day vacation tomorrow and really need this before then!

First you'll need a DVD burner.

Now assuming you have one you'll need software to do the job. There are many choices and here's some tutorials to give you an idea of how it's done with some of them.. (some are freeware)

Top of the list is a tutorial using avi2dvd which is freeware.
Note that it's usually a fairly long process because the video files need to be converted first to a DVD friendly format (can take hours depending on the size) and then the burning part which usually can be done in less than ten minutes.
