wd hdd problem.

I'm having no luck getting my machine to detect my new sata wd hdd. I've experimented with the jumper, updated bios, different cables, nothing seems to work. I don't even see an option in bios for an sata drive. I have a biostar m7ncd ultra motherboard installed. Is there something I'm missing or is this a serious problem? Any advice/help would be appreciated.

Is this a new build? Are you just not seeing the drive in the BIOS, or from within Windows? Are you using any other ATA drives aswell?

Did you install the SATA drivers that came with the HDD?

That's a nice mobo, I have a similar one and I am using a
SATA drive. I think I had a similar problem just at first.
I can't remember exactly what I did, just kept doing what
you are doing, checking jumper, cable, BIOS.

I had one IDE drive and when I added SATA I noticed there
was only one detected, and the first two positions were
undetected. Have you checked for settings in the BIOS that
would enable SATA? I am looking now at my BIOS....
Yes the SATA is detected as IDE Primary Master and the
IDE drive is detected as IDE Third Master.

In the Integrated Peripherals section of the BIOS I noticed a
selection for Sata Devices Configuration and the settings are
ATA/IDE Configuration: Enhanced
Configure SATA as: IDE

I don't think I changed these settings, but you might check yours,
at least. Also, maybe there are jumpers on the mobo to control
SATA?

I noticed there are some hardware monitoring utilities at
http://www.biostar.com.tw/support/software/index.php3
but I don't know how useful they may be in detecting or
diagnosing problem with HDD controller. I would first check
with BioStar, maybe they have idea.
