Hi
I am using RIS (riprep) to image workstations from a server and all the workstations have the same exact hardware. Only one workstation is having a problem proceeding with the installation. After it copies all win xp files from the server, it restarts (like it is supposed to) and hangs on a window that says "please wait". Any idea why it would hang on that screen?

So, it could be a hardware problem stopping the install. Would you post what the system specs are on that stubborn computer please.

I've used RIS to deploy about 80 PC here at work. I've seen this a few times, and it usually points to NIC issues. If you have a DHCP server, grab the MAC off the problem PC, then reserve an IP address for that machine and reboot it. The DHCP process happens very early in the boot, and my guess is you *won't* be able to ping that machine from another system. If that's the case, try disabling the on-board NIC and install a PCI card (cheap ones can be had for $15-$20...I always keep a few on-hand just in case). Change the DHCP reservation to match the MAC of the new NIC, reboot again, and I bet you get through the rest of the setup. (Of course, you could skip all the DHCP stuff and just shove a new NIC in, cross your finger and reboot, but I like to troubleshoot each step, just so I can see exactly what going on...)
The stange bit is, once setup has finished, you'll more than likely be able to yank the add-in NIC out, re-enanble the on-board NIC, and life will be good.
