Norton Antivirus 2006 OPINIONS

I recently purchased Norton Antivirus 2006 and I'm wondering how other members feel about this product ... I had a bit of a problem with it last week, due to me emptying out the prefetch folder, which I have done many times in the past with no problems ... I haven't reinstalled Norton 2006 back on the comp as of yet, I'm running my older version Norton Antivirus 2002 *L* ... and it works great, even though its 4 years old *L* .... I know the newer version is probably more memory intense and it does want to control alot more things when it comes to winxp ... I'm looking for opinions and suggestions from members ... thanks !

IMHO, NAV is too much of a resource hog and, a real bear to try and remove. (Just my two cents ... )

I'd have to agree with SD, (for the umteenth time today:) ) NAV likes to think it has priority over the OS, or it is an OS, i prefer Zone Alarm, you can get a free version, or try a few various Trial Versions.

*L* I know what you mean about it thinking it's an OS .... right now I'm running my old version of Norton Antivirus, which is 2002 .. and even though its old, it works great and it's not taking over my OS .... I have been staring at the norton 2006 antivirus CD for the past week wondering, should I or shouldn't I *L* ...

It's upto you, if you like it, and are used to it, then by all means, but if you change your mind, you could end up in a pickle (for want of a better word/food) as it gets wound round each pillar holding up your system deep in its guts, and can be a pain to remove again without hitting snags and boosting your posts count on forums like this.:)

Amen. NAV is terrible. I think Norton is giving less attention to their antivirus business now that they're branching out into all kinds of other things. When you have to devote that much web space to telling people how to get rid of your product, something is amiss.

liam ... it wasn't all that hard to get rid of once it screwed my comp up *L* .... I gave in and reformatted *L* ... think I just might stay with my old trusty version of Norton 2002 ... it works, I get live up dates and it's not taking over my system ....
p.s. ... I tossed a couple basses out on the driveway today, wanna go for a ride with me as I back over them *L* .....

I haven't used Norton's software since 2001. My computers are better off because of it. The free software you find is way better than Norton.

:D It depends on: (a) Are they any good. (b) Are they 4 stringers....and i may decide to pick one up and save it for myself :D
